4 Things You Don’t See on American News

via mefi:

Exhibit #1 - Journalists who ask questions - I

Calling it what it is - terrorism against a civilian population

UK correspondant John Snow interviews Israeli ambassador about Israel's attacks against Palestinians.

Notice that in the UK, television journalists don't automatically defer to Israeli government represenatives the way US news people do. Why is that?

Exhibit #2 - Journalists who ask questions - II

For European eyes only

CNN broadcasts different news in Europe than it does in the US.

Why can't we get reporters like this on CNN-US? Instead we get Wolf Blitzer, a former employee of AIPAC, the Israeli War Party's lobby in the US.

Exhibit #3 - US citizens who say "NO!"

The US is mortgaging its future to support
the criminal activities of a foreign power - why?

Do you think all Americans are uninformed and/or unconcerned about America's relationship with Israel?

You would if you watch US TV.

The reality: Millions of Americans are aware that US foreign policy has been hijacked by the Israeli War Party - and they cannot get their voices heard because of US media news censorship.

Exhibit #4 - Daily brutality

What goes on in the refugee camps

The Israeli military thought this footage of a routine operation in the Occupied Territories had been destroyed.

It wasn't and someone with courage ran it on TV - in Israel. Then, thanks to Canada, it was aired in North America. You will never see it on a US network.

Being on the receiving end of this kind of brutality is the norm for Palestinians living in the Occupied Territories.

Bonus: Ann Coulter on UK BBC Newsnight interview with Jeremy Paxman

Ok, that makes five, but, wow, I had no idea just how much of an idiot Ann Coutler is. She is the definition of Astroturf. What a whore.

  1. Everyone ignores PBS & C-span. Who would expect to see anything other than what sponsors pay for on commercial TV? Almost everyone who’s started a college education in the U.S. is directed towards public access and worldwide media, both of which aren’t without their own political agendas.

  2. Agreed. Where are the progressive corporate sponsors though? Do they exists? Or perhaps they have fallen victim to the astroturf of Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter, attempting to be so far to the right that they move the middle.

Stupid people make stupid choices. Can we please fund our education system now?

  3. I am one American who totally disagree. And your blog does exactly what the extreme Moslems do…no matter what is asked of the extreme Moslems they always answer condemning Israel and the US…they never take responsibility for anything, they never make a mistake, They never answer the questions so why ask? Your blog is just another example of the double standard that the US and Israel is held to…Maybe you would be happier is the Israeli’s just fired the bombs into Lebanon without any regard to military strategy just to shoot and then run away…Instead of going in like the actual national army it is, in identifiable uniforms…not hiding behind the civilians. It is not for lack of trying that the Hizbollah has not killed thousands of Israeli civilians.

  4. Thanks for your comments.

The truth, as with most things, is somewhere in the middle. I don\’t claim Arabs blameless, certainly it\’s ridiculous to attempt to assign blame by race. Both Israel and the Arab world have as much diversity of opinion as any group of people.

I agree that in this, and most other recent public debate, people tend to identify with one side and then demonize the opposition. For instance, when you compare me to \”extreme Moslems.\” The comparison is laughable, honestly.

To be clear, I believe that in modern times no peace has ever come by invading and occupying another country. While I would be happiest is Isreal removed all of their settlements from the Occupied Territories and stopped dropping bombs on anyone, I would be happier if Israel at the least did as the US did when it invaded another country it considers to be \”harboring enemies.\” I defer to a previous comment:

Here are some thing the US did with respect to Iraq that Israel never did with respect to Lebanon:

    * Israel never put on their case before the UN.
    * Israel never asked the UN to try to negotiate a peaceful resolution (the US forced the inspectors back into Iraq, if you recall)
    * Israel never consulted publicly with other nations having an interest in the matter before acting.
    * Israel has no plans to stay and rebuild the civilian infrastucture of Lebanon.
    * Israel has no plans to train the Lebanese army.

These are all things the US has done, or tried to do, or did poorly, but it still did them. The US could have invaded Iraq unilaterally on 9/12/2001 with no stated reason whatsoever and nobody would have done a thing. But the US didn\’t do that. Bush bashing aside, they at least tried to court world opinion.

Israel has kill thousands of civilians without \”targeting\” them. Hizbollah has killed hundreds of civilians and purportedly \”targets\” them. Palestians live in draconian conditions with 65% unemployment and no hope of any future as long as Israel is their jailkeeper. Israeli\’s have it much, much better off.

Are you attempting to convince me that Israel is taking resposiblity for it\’s mistakes? Or that it truely hasn\’t made any? Neither side takes responsibilty for their actions.

Palestine does not have 87 UN resolutions against it\’s illegal occupation. Israel does. Palestine does not have an army, Israel does. Palestine is not occupying a foreign country, Israel is. Israelis do not have wait for hours at checkpoints to travel freely in their own country. Palenstians do. Israel pulls the same shit as the Arabs and then also claims to be blameless, the good guys. They claimed to be withdrawing from it\’s occupation of Palestine long enough to build a wall, more settlements, steal more water, destroy/move more olive trees, and now a war.

    Talk about a double standard.
